Indoor drone show at UAE Super Cup, 2023

DRONICO opened the UAE Super Cup ceremony in Dubai, then set a new world record at the tournament’s draw event: the first simultaneous flight of 200 drones inside a covered stadium. The show was broadcast live on three TV channels to 15,000 spectators in the arena.

For indoor flight, DRONICO deployed an internal ultra-wideband (UWB) navigation network instead of GPS. Each drone flew at altitudes of up to 10 metres, weighing only 149 grams and equipped with obstacle-avoidance technology to guarantee full safety above the audience.

We are proud that our team was the first to achieve this number inside a sports stadium anywhere in the world.

Trajectories for outdoor drones are based on satellite data, and such drones are not suited to an immersive programme in an enclosed space where the signal is weak or unstable. For this show the team deployed an internal ultra-wideband positioning network inside the venue.
