Drone show in Dubai at the Dubai Frame: the Voyager card launch
DRONICO staged a drone show in front of the Dubai Frame for the launch of the Voyager card by Emirates NBD and Mastercard. The drones flew opposite the landmark, so that the formations appeared inside its opening, with the choreography built to sit alongside the architecture rather than compete with it.
Why this site is difficult
The Dubai Frame is 150 metres high and about 95 metres wide, and it stands in Zabeel Park between the old city and the new. Its proportions follow the golden ratio, the facade carries more than 15,000 square metres of gold-toned stainless steel and 2,500 glass modules, and the sky deck with its glass floor sits at the top. It opened in January 2018 to a design by Fernando Donis, chosen through an international competition, and it holds the record as the largest frame in the world.
It is hard to surprise anyone next to a structure like that. Light alone is not enough: the building is already lit, already gold, already the thing people photograph. A show here has to hold attention as confidently as the architecture it stands against, or it simply disappears into it.
What we did
We built the programme as refined lines and vivid light placed directly opposite the Frame, so that the formations were held by the opening itself and read as part of it. The launch of the Voyager card received a visual gesture aligned with Dubai’s own context: technological, exact, expansive.
A show like this works where an event needs more than illumination: it needs an image that is instantly understood. For a card launch that meant a format speaking on the scale of the city itself.
