Sharks for Qatar Tourism, 2025

DRONICO built radio-controlled airships in the shape of whale sharks and flew them in Doha as part of a Qatar Tourism campaign.

We designed the shape, calculated the flight dynamics and tuned the control systems for smooth, gliding movement; the figures do not spin or perform tricks. The campaign referred to a natural event that takes place off the Qatari coast every summer, when hundreds of whale sharks gather in Gulf waters.

They do not spin or perform tricks. They glide, and that is what draws the eye.

The launch was a nod to a rare natural gathering that takes place every summer off the coast, when hundreds of whale sharks converge in the Gulf waters and visitors can see them in the wild. Now the phenomenon can be seen not only at sea but also in the sky, at events, festivals and public spaces.
